Shodo

(Japanese Calligraphy)

Shodo, also known as Japanese calligraphy, is a traditional art that involves the artistic writing of Japanese characters using a brush and ink. The origins of this art date back to the 5th century when Chinese characters were introduced to Japan. Shodo is not just a form of writing but also a spiritual practice that combines technique, aesthetics, and meditation. There are different styles of Shodo, such as Kaisho (block style), Gyosho (cursive style), and Sosho (semi-cursive style), each with its own characteristics and levels of difficulty.

At the Shodo booth, participants will have the opportunity to observe and appreciate this ancient art. Volunteers will write words or participants’ names calligraphically using Japanese characters. Each participant can choose a word or say their name, and the volunteers will create a personalized calligraphy piece for them. Participants will be able to watch the writing process and keep the requested calligraphy as a souvenir.

Shodo is not just about writing beautifully but also about achieving a state of inner peace and concentration. This experience offers participants a unique opportunity to connect with Japanese traditions and appreciate the beauty and complexity of the art of calligraphy.

Learn Shodo

At the Learn Shodo booth, participants will have the opportunity to learn and practice this art. Each person will be able to choose a kanji (Japanese character) and will be guided in reproducing it, respecting the correct order of strokes. Shodo is not just about writing beautifully but also about achieving a state of inner peace and concentration.
