Ian Beattie was born on 3 March 1965 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. A graduate of Queen's University Belfast and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, he has worked on stage and screen since 1989. He is best known as Ser Meryn Trant in Game of Thrones (2011-2015) and as Antigonus in Oliver Stone's Alexander (2004), with further credits in Vikings, The Tudors, Doctor Who, The Journey (2016) and Papillon (2017).
