Taiko
(Japanese Drums)
Taiko is a general term for Japanese drums, but outside Japan, it refers specifically to the large drums used in group performances, known as kumi-daiko. Taiko has a long history in Japan, being used in various contexts, from religious and military ceremonies to theatrical performances and concerts. The powerful and rhythmic sound of taiko drums is often described as the heartbeat of Japan.
At the Taiko workshop, participants will have the opportunity to experience the powerful rhythms of Japan alongside Kodama Daiko. This activity offers a unique opportunity to learn about taiko percussion techniques and feel the energy and dynamism of this traditional art. Each session will include demonstrations and opportunities for participants to try playing the drums under the guidance of experienced musicians.
